ARTIST STATMENT
Aliza is passionate about making wall tessellations, which are formed of simple geometric shapes, and adjusting their exteriors to build dimension, form, and movement. Â Her five projects are a metamorphosis from digitization to traditional handwork to attain the ultimate composition. Creations differ from one another using different design techniques yet have a key feature: depth.
Aliza has been fascinated with tiles since she was a child, been born into a family who used to manufacture tiles. Aliza used to go to the factory and warehouses regularly, fascinated by how a lump of clay could be transformed into a smooth, shiny block. Her senior presentation is primarily comprised of several tiles fixed on the wall in various forms; the rationale for her decision is to focus primarily on tiles to demonstrate how a tile pattern can transform the look and feel of a room. It adds color, depth, illusion, brightness, and, most importantly, life to a barren area.Â
Aliza create designs made from simple geometric shapes, which are like Persian wall tiles. Most of the mosques and palaces built during the 18th and 19th centuries are comprised of geometric shapes: triangles, eight-pointed stars, six-pointed stars, crosses, squares, and octagon or non-geometric shapes such as flowers.  As geometric ornamental in Islamic art means a large amount of freedom and its repetition of simple pieces composes complexity and an infinite amount of growth which is a key factor related to my work.
