ANN SACKS:KOHLER

May, 2022

Completed the internship successfully, engaging in a range of learning activities in the manufacturing facility and office.
Over the course of 10 weeks, I completed a full cycle through every tile factory production workstation (forming, firing, glaze producing, spraying, grouting, and inspecting). During my tenure there, I created a whole new stoneware tile product from the ground up, from concept and digital design through mold-making and final manufacturing.
Also took the initiative to join in a number of other worthwhile initiatives, assisting our Chief Designer and Engineers.

MOUSE CERAMIC STUDIO

July, 2021

Location: Brooklyn, NewYork

I was responsible primarily for day-to-day operational concerns which are integral to the smooth running of the studio. These day-to-day tasks included loading bisque and glaze kilns, chiseling and washing shelves as well as rotating fired work. During this internship, I learned how to mix glazes from scratch and am familiar now with basic glaze chemistry and the foundation of different materials.

LEAPING DOG ART STUDIO

July, 2021

Location: Bordentown, NewJersy
Assisted in the reclaim of clay (i.e. breaking down bone-dry clay, laying out mixed slurry onto plaster slabs, and wedging the recycled clay). My day-to-day to-dos included helping in organizing and maintaining raw materials for glaze mixing, assisting in loading or unloading work from the electric kiln, and also helping in mixing up a batch of Magic slip. Additionally, swept and mopped, disinfected, and wiped high-touch areas. On other days I helped to disinfect art supplies, sharpen pencils and assemble Art Kits for our Summer Campers.
